HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

The head of the chair is Smiyan Olexandr Ivanovych – the doctor of Medical Sciences, professor. He graduated from Ternopil’ medical institute in 1981, worked as an associate professor at the chair of Pediatrics at Zaporizhya medical institute. In 1996 he defended his doctor dissertation titled “The Endocrine and Morthofunctional mechanisms of adaptation of the prematurely born with intrauterine growth retardation during early neonatal period”. Prof. Olexandr I. Smiyan is the academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences of National Progress. He published more than 600 scientific and training works. Honored Doctor of Ukraine.

Smiyan O.I. is a member of the competition committee of students’ works section “Clinical Medicine”, the chairman of the State Examination Commissionin specialty “General Medicine” (Kharkov, University of Kharkiv), chairman of the State Examination Commission in “Pediatrics” medical interns, member of the Board of Scientific Editors (USA), member the editorial board of the journal “Eastern Ukrainian Medical Journal,” journals “Contemporary Pediatrics” and “Pediatrics, obstetrics and Gynecology”, “Anti-Aging Eastern Europe” a member of the Medical Council of Sumy City Children’s Clinical Hospital, the head of the clinic of the Sumy City Children’s Hospital, a member of the competition committee of students’ works section “Preventive Medicine”, from 2014 is a chairman of Union Bureau Medical Institute of Sumy State University.

In 2015, O. I. Smiyan participated in the accreditation examination in Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and Lviv National Medical University in the composition of the expert committee.

Smiyan A.I. was elected a member the Board and Presidium of Sumy regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine in 2015.
